When a person is said to be intelligent, what have they done in their life to receive this status. Maybe they made a new technological breakthrough, found the cure to a disease, or even started a successful business. Intelligence is defined by Webster dictionary as: the ability to learn or understand from experience and the ability to acquire and retain knowledge. To be considered intelligent does not mean that you attended Harvard University and graduated at the top of your class. It means coming up with something new or different when the old way just doesn't work anymore. Deep sport knowledge, street smarts, and musical ability are three types of intelligences where the ability to invent something unique is required.
If you have the ability to come up with unique methods of beating your opponent in a sport contest, then you're intelligent. In all sports, you must follow the fundamentals to become a good player, but to take your skills to the next level you must be original. A few years ago, the Dallas Mavericks weren't a serious threat to many teams in the NBA, but now they give the Lakers and Spurs a hard road to the championships every year.
