The Jews were the targets of the German Nazis. They had to make many difficult decisions that could kill or save their loved ones. Most fled from their homeland to survive, leaving family and belongings behind. Other unfortunate people found out that simpler decisions, such as hiding household necessities for later use after the war, could also cost someone their life. In the novel Daniel’s Story by Carol Matas, Daniel and his family had to make many life or death decisions. One example of a decision that they made was when the family decided that Friedrich and Daniel should hide in a cellar.
