"Red Grange"
Harold ("Red") Grange was born on June 13, 1903, in Forksville, Pennsylvania.
His mother passed away when he was only five years old. His father moved the family to Wheaton Illinois. At Wheaton High Grange was a phenomenal athlete. He was an all around sports performer. Throughout his high school career he won sixteen varsity letters in sports such as football, basketball, baseball and track. Grange would lug ice in Wheaton during the summer months as a way to stay in shape.
Grange went to the University of Illinois because it was a cheap place to go and he didn't have an athletic scholarship. Grange was reluctant to go out for football. He wasn't a very big man only five-feet-ten and he weighed 170 pounds...
