The Art of Film Editing
Ever since I started learning about the entertainment industry more in depth, I began to think that the editing of a film was interesting. Especially since when we watch a movie, all we see is a story from beginning to end. We don't exactly think about how the scenes were shot 30 different times, out of sequence, and put together to make the story flow. We think of editing as jumping from one scene to another. But in reality, film editing is the transition from one image to another as well as the balancing of rhythm in the narrative. So much more takes place in the editing room, such as different techniques of editing. This is where things happen in the editing room. In this essay, I will talk about how important the job of the editor is and how he makes the movie come together.
The Film Encyclopedia, Ephraim Katz, describes film editing as "the process of selecting, assembling, and arranging motion picture shots and corresponding soundtracks, in coherent sequence and flowing continuity."
