The purpose of this essay is to state the arguments for the legalization of marijuana. According to the American Journal of Nursing, marijuana is safer, less addictive, and causes fewer health problems than tea or coffee. Junk food, salt, tobacco, caffeine, and alcohol have been proven to do greater harm to the body than marijuana. Numerous studies have shown that marijuana is not an addictive drug. There have never been any reported cases of fatalities from smoking marijuana. Sleep is the only reported symptom of a marijuana “overdose”, unlike drinking alcohol which can cause alcohol poisoning, which can be fatal. No reported cases of lung cancer have ever been reported from smoking marijuana unlike with cigarettes or cigars. There is no known lethal dose of marijuana. There have never been any reported symptoms of withdrawal when marijuana use is ceased for any length of time. Cancer patients find much needed relief from their nausea when they smoke marijuana.
