Euthanasia
Is active euthanasia morally justifiable? I intend to discuss this question, and in which circumstances it would be justifiable in, if any. I intend to distinguish between what the voluntary and non-voluntary cases of euthanasia are. I am also going to discuss where autonomy and beneficence stand in the subject matter, and the sanctity of life vs. the quality of life. It is also a wonder on how the "slipper slope" will affect us if euthanasia is legalized in the United States. All of these questions will be brought up and discussed in the following paper.
Euthanasia can be described as mercy killing; however active euthanasia is when a physician or a doctor helps a patient to die, whereas just allowing a patient to die is called passive euthanasia. Active euthanasia is completed by injecting a lethal dose of a drug into the patient, and passive euthanasia is where a life support system such as a respirator or drugs are taken away which would cause the patient to die. Both are forms of euthanasia and different people have different ideas of whether this is morally acceptable or not...
