Harley-Davidson, Inc. celebrates its 100-year anniversary in 2003. The company has survived and flourished throughout the years, and has emerged as an American icon. With over 1,300 Harley-Davidson dealerships in 48 countries worldwide, the company's primary business is the manufacture of motorcycles and motorcycle products. More importantly, Harley-Davidson sells an image. It is the image of rugged freedom that embodies America and is recognized and coveted worldwide. This fact is readily apparent in its international appeal.
Harley-Davidson is a For Profit, Non-governmental Organization with a mission to:
"Fulfill dreams through the experiences of motorcycling, by providing to motorcyclists and to the general public an expanding line of motorcycles and branded products and services in selected market segments."
While the motorcycle is what defines Harley-Davidson, it is in business to design, manufacture, market and sell a complete line of motorcycles, motorcycle parts, accessories, apparel and general merchandise. Harley-Davidson also markets a variety of other branded products to include Buell Company sport motorcycles, and Harley-Davidson Financial Services (Bleustein, 2002)...
