Pablo Picasso
Pablo Picasso has been called the most important and the most innovative artist of the twentieth century. He is known for his paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, and his printmaking as well as his pioneering approaches and techniques. Picasso dove into the world of the 20th century headfirst and produced a body of work that completely immerses the viewer into the turbulent and wonderfully beautiful images and emotions that he, along with the rest of the world experienced during his lifetime. Whether in his simplistic forms and colors in his linoleum cuts or his frantic chaotic cubist compositions, as well as everything in between these two, Picasso spoke with his heart and expressed all that he saw in a way very few artist have been able to in history.
Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain in 1881. His father was a painter himself as well as a teacher and realized early on that his son had a magnificent talent. With his fathers direction Picasso started out on the road to being an artist. By 14 he was painting beautiful realistic works and was accepted to advanced classes at the School of Fine Art in Barcelona, Spain. In 1897 his painting Science and Charity, won an honorable mention at the Madrid national exhibition. He was also accepted to the conservative Royal Academy in Madrid at this time, but withdrew in the spring of the following year because of a case of scarlet fever, but he was also thoroughly bored with the courses and instruction that he easily mastered in no time at all at the Royal Academy...
