The novel A Candle For St Antony written by Eleanor Spence is an up lifting book. It has many themes that bring happiness to the book. The friendship is the most uplifting theme. Friendship with new and different people change our thoughts and makes us better people. The book shows that all dreams are possible and the importance of family importance is an uplifting theme also. The novels main theme of friendship unfolds though out the whole novel. The friendship of Rudi and Justin is a significant up lifting theme. In the beginning of the novel the two boys do not get along very well. Justin is a bully to Rudi and he is racist towards him. Then afterwards they become very close friends. The friendship grows stronger. They find that they are very compatible with each other and understand each other’s situations. Rudy influences Justin to become more mature. He sees that his friends Greg and Rick are not really his type anymore and he strays from them as the book progresses. The close friendship is showed in many ways through the novel.
