Dictionary.com states that the term Ebonics means: a nonstandard form of American English spoken by some American Black people. To those people who speak it, Ebonics is a main source of communication. Dating back centuries ago, this form of speech has developed and united those people who have adopted it as their native tongue. As time marches on, this form of language gets harder and harder for teachers to understand thus many more children are failing out of school and are unable to maintain any sort of job. For the onlookers, Ebonics is not a standardized way to speak and should be ultimately changed but to the people who speak it, "change" is not something they are willing to do.
I know Ebonics is seen as "lazy English" or "street slang" but those two phrases do not describe the dialect as we see it. Ebonics is a way to communicate with people in your neighborhood and to your friends, not just some "thug lingo" that we picked up on the way. Many people thing that just because someone speaks Ebonics they can not speak "regular" English. That's very untrue...
