1. Confucianism, Taoism, and Legalism: Explore the interdependence and conflicts that exist between the permeable borders of these three philosophies.
Confucianism, Taoism and Legalism were all dominant schools of thought in ancient China. Each of them held different values that would constantly conflict with each other. For instance, Confucianism was the idea of a structure of government ruled by a humane king that reflected the people's will, whereas the Legalist's believed in a government where the ruler would have a dominant rule over his subjects with heavy punishments. The Taoist's contrasted both with no concern for affairs of the state. They believe that the affairs of the state were inferior to the connection to nature and the world of the spirit. The three differ greatly but also have their similarities. For instance the main theme of each is to save society. Also Legalists may have borrowed from the concept of an amoral natural order , conventional ethics and book learning...
