Founded in 1990 by fitness fanatic Kirk Perron, Jamba Juice offers a health-conscious alternative to fast food. The California chain, known for fresh-squeezed juices, made-to-order smoothies, pretzels, and breads, is the pioneer and dominant player in the segment of smoothies and juice bars. It was ranked No. 2 among top 50 growth chains in the 2001 Restaurant Business survey.
The first store as Juice Club was opened in San Luis Obispo. By 1993, Juice Club had opened two additional stores. In 1994, it had nearly quadrupled its size, with 11 stores in operation. The company relocated its home office to San Francisco in July 1995 and introduced its new store concept - Jamba Juice (i.e. "Jamba" is "celebration" in West African)...
