Custom Fabricators, Inc. From Lean Manufacturing Partners to Contract Manufacturer
Custom Fabricators Inc. is a company that represents the backbone of the U.S manufacturing system. At the beginning, Custom Fabricators were just making the control panels for the elevators; however since Orleans Inc. started business in the late 1980s, Custom Fabricators traditionally fabricates all kinds of special brackets and the entire control panel, complete with the buttons and the wiring harness, which is a massive box that contains the motor and control electronics for the elevator. Unfortunately, Orleans is looking into FreeMarkets Internet purchasing system to reduce costs associated with its elevators; it concerned to Custom Fabricators Inc. since they might loose the business with Orleans Inc. The company was also concerned about how well a Mexican Plant located in Central Mexico could supply all the parts that currently Customs Fabricators were supplying to Orleans.
