The Florida Everglades
The Florida Everglades is one of the well known marshes in the world. The Everglades and the Gulf Coast stretch from the southern tip of Florida westward to the southern tip of Texas. A wetland is the area of land that is covered with water for all or part of the year. A marsh are also wetlands, however they are characterized by the growth of nonwoody plants such as grasses.
Millions of animals live in this part of Florida. Lurking deep within the thick marshes are millions of organisms. Some live entirely beneath the water, while others live entirely on land. The following animals are part of the food web that exists within the confines of the Florida Everglades. Vulture (Coragyps atratus),
Alligator (Alligator Mississippienis), Water Snake (Natrix sipedon sipedon),
Pig Frog (Rana grylio), Hylid Frog (Gastrotheca riobambae), Red-Shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus), Barred Owl (Strix varia), Deer (Cervus canadensis), Marsh Rabbit (Sylvilagus palustris), Muskrat (Ondatra zibethica), Coot (Fulica Atra), Moorhen (Gallinula cholropus), Turtle (Terrapene carolina), Crayfish (Euastacus spp), Rats (Rattus norvegicus), Mice (Mus musculus), Fishing Spider (Araneae), Passerine Bird (Passer domesticus), and Boat-Tailed Grackle (Quiscalus major).
