Values Taught in MythsLessons Learned???
People have always tried to understand why certain things happen. In ancient times events were explained in terms of stories about gods, goddesses, and heroes. Most myths concern those with supernatural powers, but in spite of these powers, most gods, goddesses, and heroes in mythology have human characteristics in order that morals
and values may be taught. The myths of Theseus and Osiris and Isis are two such examples. The heroes, heroines, and villains in these two stories are guided by human emotions such as love, jealousy, and pride; and they experience birth and death. The myths of Theseus and Osiris and Isis stress proper behavior and depict examples of basic moral values that serve as guidelines for living; good overcomes evil; love triumphs not only over evil, but also over death itself; and the sin of excessive pride can result in downfall and defeat of heroes.
Good overcoming evil is the first example of a moral lesson in the myths of Theseus and Osiris and Isis. Theseus possessed all the qualities of a mythical hero endowed with supernatural strength and courage...
