Legal Drinking Age
The main problem with alcohol in the United States is that it is looked at as a beverage to get drunk off of; teenagers especially take on that perception. By having an age restriction for consuming or purchasing alcohol, there is a view given off that it is a mature thing to do. And in our society it is "the thing" to act more mature than your age. So why wouldn't teenagers drink alcohol to be cool? It only makes sense. The solution to the problem of alcoholism is to reduce the drinking age to sixteen.
It is estimated that about one in ten of people aged over 60 have alcohol-related problems in the United States (Under the Influence, page 47). They also said that it 1999, 2,238 people between the ages of fifteen and twenty were killed in crashes that involved alcohol. Now there are many countries in Europe, for example France, Germany, Italy, and Spain where the drinking age is sixteen. In France in 1999, there were 1,378 alcohol-related deaths while kids between the ages of fifteen and twenty who were driving while intoxicated...
