Why is it a sin to kill a mockingbird, but not a blue jay? From the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus mentions to Scout, "Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit'em. But remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." (90) Mockingbirds and blue jays are mentioned several times in the book, often used as symbols. But what do they symbolize?
