The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky
Plot
The series of events in "The Bride" that moved the narrative were the train ride, the events with the band and meeting up with Scratchy Wilson. The plot thickened as anticipating the arrival at Yellow Sky and the town's approval of their marriage. Yet the hidden plot was revealed with a climax of Jack and Scratchy being foes and the stand off with the gun.
Point of View
It was wise to use third person in "The Bride" because it allowed the plot to be introduced piece by piece through several characters and events through the unknown narrator. First person would have worked through Jack but it would have been only his point of view not allowing us to feel the complete mood of the plot and characters.
Character
The characters were clearly visible as the Jack, the bride, drummer and Scratchy. Yet, we also found characters through the introduction of the scenery of the train ride, the symbol of the people of Yellow Sky and how they might view the marriage and how the drummer funneled information regarding Scratchy. Characters assist in many functions adding humor, symbols and introductions to plots.
Setting
The setting in the Bride gives the reader great description of the landscape as the train rides across Texas. We also are introduced to the culture as Jack anticipates the town people of Yellow Sky...
