Every man is faced with a decision to commit. T.S. Eliot, the author of "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" brings this decision to life and proves how timeless it really is. Prufrock's journey begins with his single life, which is filled with one-night stands, he is soon faced with the decision to marry and at the end of the poem finally goes through with it. Therefore, the theme of "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" is a man's journey from being a bachelor to getting married.
One reason for Prufrock's indecision to get married is how he spends his single life, which is defined by nights spent with prostitutes. In the first stanza Prufrock is addressing a woman who he takes through "certain half-deserted streets" where he is sure no one of an upper class will see him, a clear sign of embarrassment to be seen with her...
