Before they pull the plug on space, though, they should know that NASA is on the brink of solving many of the problems we have on Earth today with the capabilities of the International Space Station (ISS).
Many of these politicians, like republican congressman Greg Ganske of Iowa, claim that the International Space station can never be worth the money required to build it. What can we possibly find in space that will ever be worth billions of dollars? With the billions being spent to build this massive project, we should just use the money to help out on Earth. For example we could spend that money to fight pollution or give more aid and medical attention to starving countries like Africa. With all the good that is still to be done on Earth, we are getting ahead of ourselves by venturing into space.
I believe that these claims can all be refuted with the same economic idea that is used in investing, which is that you put something in and you get more out. With the investment of money into the ISS, the World can find solutions to hunger, disease, pollution, and various other problems that the people of Earth are faced with today. The best way to demonstrate why the ISS is a good investment is to look into why the International Space Station is being built in the first place, and examine the goals that the fifteen countries building this "co-operative venture" (Space Adds New Dimension) are hoping to achieve...
