INTRODUCTION
Job design has always been an area of great interest and importance. Designing jobs and roles for the employees that take the maximum advantage of each individual's abilities to contribute to efficiency and effectiveness of an organization is one of the most important challenges that managers have to face. Traditional job design focused primarily on efficiency of employees and this led to the strategies of work simplification. After work simplification (breaking of work into small tasks), each worker would master one task through job specialization.
This paper is a literature review of job specialization and the way in which it affects an individual and an organization. It starts with the history of job simplification, building the general concept of job specialization we look at arguments for and against it and critically evaluate them...
