I think that a company's mission statement effects society if it is trying to help better society. For example my company's main goal is to become the world leader in the bioanalytical market. This means they want to be number one is the analytical testing market. My company's mission most definitely has a mission that will impact society.
We currently have a client of our that has a plant shut down due to Listeria found in their plant we have to test their products to make sure this is true. This means their fate is in our hands for now. This also impacts people because who wants to go somewhere and buy foods that have infectious diseases. I do not know about you all but I sure do not.
All companies in my own opinion should be trying to impact the society and social processes around them. Companies are here to serve us and their mission statement should reflect the service that they as a company have to offer us...
