Has the cost of attending professional sporting events surpassed the value of the experience? If this question had been posed to me ten years ago, I would have responded with a resounding no, but with prices climbing as they are, I would now have to reevaluate my position. Attending a pro game or event is an experience like no other. The tailgating, the smell of the fresh air, the enthusiasm of fans, and the idea of watching history be made are all reasons we continue to attend ball games. As far back as I can remember, I would beg my dad to bring me to every Eagles opening game. I loved feeling as if I were part of the team, wearing my jersey, and telling my friends at school on Monday that I was at the game. Now that I am older and have a greater understanding of the value of a dollar, I have to admit that professional games are clearly overpriced.
As prices are climbing, I think it is time to ask ourselves how much is a three hour event really worth to me? Is it worth half a paycheck for a family outing? Outrageous does not begin too describe the escalation in ticket prices to sporting events in the last decade...
