The Second Amendment states that “ A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of the free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The amendment means that the militia can have arms to protect the State and you, and average American, can have a gun to protect yourself. Due to the recent events of our times, school shootings and workplace shootings, a lot of controversy has risen about gun control in America. Rural areas generally oppose greater controls on firearms, and urban areas generally favor them. Republicans usually oppose restrictions; Democrats usually back them. What is the answer? America needs to keep the gun laws as they stand and provide more education about guns then it is providing now. The back round checks, five-day waiting period and not allowing a person convicted of a felony to be able to get firearms are just a couple of examples of the more then 20,000 gun laws in affect in the United States today.
