The introduction of the book is over and it has now become very intense. Sajjad Khan (Shahid's father) has died from the plague. Now Shahid leaves his home on his way to his brother Rahim's house in Barnet. While he is going he meets Fran and Harriet who are also out for the same purpose. The three of them agree that they will travel together to Barnet. Along the way they stay in a deserted shop to spend the night there. During the night Shahid becomes infected and is infected by the plague. Fran insists on staying with Shahid but Harriet disagrees and leaves both them to go to the "party" that finished a month ago. So now Fran is on her own, hoping that Shahid would get well. Quote Fran on Pg# 96 "I hope Shahid gets better, I need somebody to talk to even for a moment...
