MUMPS
Mumps is an acute viral disease that mainly attacks the glandular and nervous tissues. The pathogen that causes mumps is myxo, which comes from the Paramyxoviridae family.
Symptoms
Some people may have mumps and not show any symptoms but they can still spread their illness. Mumps is highly contagious from 3 days before to 4 days after the symptoms show. About one-fifth of all people infected with mumps will not show symptoms. The symptoms of mumps include a low-grade fever, swelling or tenderness of one or more of the salivary glands in the cheek or under the jaw, loss of appetite and dryness of throat. In adult males, inflammation of the testicles occurs in about 20% of all cases, but resulting in sterility is rare. In children, infection of the auditory nerve can cause deafness, but this is also a rare result. All symptoms of mumps usually appear between 12 and 25 days after a person has been exposed to the virus. Complications of mumps occur more often among adults than children and may include, Meningitis, which is inflammation of the membrane that covers the brain and spinal chord, Orchitis, which is the inflammation of the testicles, Oophoritis which is the inflammation of the Ovary, and Pancreatitis which is the inflammation of the pancreas...
