In assessing the population, one must first consider the geographical location. Costa Rica lies practically on the equator. It is part of central America and is the second smallest central American nation after El Salvador. It is a country that is still developing industries, life support and transportation. Costa Rica is quite a mountainous country and it enjoys an immense diversity of climates and ecosystems. In general, however, temperatures vary between 14 and 22 C in the highlands and between 22 and 28 C in the lowlands. Temperatures remain relatively stable throughout the year, although some slight changes may occur depending on whether it is summer (December to April) or winter (May to November).
Costa Rica is the southernmost country in Central America, immediately north of Pananma and with ports in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. It is located in the middle of the American Continent and provides air and ocean freight transportation services to major American, Mexican, Central American, South American and Caribbean ports and cities.
