Violence in the Media and Aggression

Human learning occurs in many ways through observation. The acts of our parents, peers, and teachers are what we learn from. Reading books, attending school, watching different forms of media help us develop different views, different values and give us a perspective on the world we live in.
Television is perhaps the most common form of media we are exposed to. Children especially are exposed to scenes of murder, beating and sexual assault just by watching one half-hour episode of "The Sopranos." If a child watches two to four hours of TV a day, she or he will have seen 8,000 murders and another 100,000 acts of violence by the time they have finished elementary school. Movies are no different. It was shown in a stud that any G rated movie on average has a duration of 9 to 10 minutes of violence. This is a scary statistic we are looking at. No matter where you go, violence is present in any and all forms of the media...
