“The Collector” is guilty I found it hard to read “The Collector” by John Fowles because of its cruelty. But anyway I am going to try to convince you that I think Frederick, the main character, is guilty of murder and kidnapping. But I think that he is a victim of different kinds of circumstances that make he to do this crime. I think one of the reasons why this book scare you are that this can really happen and it may already had. You can see that Frederick already in early years feels that he is different and has problems with his relations. His mother leaves the family when he is just a little child and short after his father dies. Frederick feels of course abounded. He has to stay with his aunt and uncle, but they do not take very good care of him. His aunt and cousin are really mean to him. Only at a few times you can see that Frederick and his uncle have something like a relationship and that is when they collect butterflies together. Frederick’s uncle dies when Frederick is just fifteen years old and the feeling of being abounded was strengthened. He keeps him to himself and does not like to mix with other people too much. Relationships to girls are not to think about and he stays with dreaming about them. When he had turned about twenty or a little more he works and supplies his aunt and cousin with money, so when he wins a lot of money on the pool the whole “family” moves to London.
