A New Revolution

Throughout time society has progressed from being "uniform" to having many different styles. People can take on different prospectives about what they think life should be like. The movie Pleasantville shows us that change is crucial for society to function properly. It shows that for things to have order, it needs to have variety. The movie shows the citizens of Pleasantville living in a "perfect" world, the citizens reacting to change, and how their society adapts to those changes. The citizens of Pleasantville had a rude yet pleasant awakening to what life is really about. Pleasantville is a town composed of houses, cars, stores, and the people generally looking and acting the same. Their society has "blue prints" to the way in which things are supposed to be like. They have a certain way in which everything is to happen and how everything is to be consistent. Everyone has the same opinions about anything and everything. This town is sheltered and off in its own universe that has not been corrupted. For example, the married couples all have double beds not conjoined ones where a husband and wife sleep together. This shows the innocence the people of Pleasantville possess. It also shows that they are always going to stick to their conformed lives. Another prominent observation is that they don’t seem to learn much about anything because in their classes, they learn about the streets of Pleasantville and stuff that has no meaning at all. The reason for this is because to them there is only one Pleasantville and no other world. Everyone knows the same as everyone else. If they were taught a variety of things there would be an unlimited amount one could learn, this would then make some people smarter than others. This would then make people different and this is not how their town works.
