Purpose- To determine the mathematical relationship between the period of a n oscillating spring and the mass of the bob.
Independent Variables - The masses are the independent variables
Dependant Variables - The period of the oscillating spring is the dependant variable.
Hypothesis - If the mass of the bob is increased then the period of the oscillating spring will increase because the applied force will be greater
Materials -retort stand
-ring clamp
-oscillating spring
-two 20g masses, a 100g mass, and two 200g masses
-stop watch
-ruler
Procedure- 1) The ring clamp was attached to the top of the retort stand.
2) The oscillating spring was then attached to the circle clamp.
3) The specified mass was then attached to the bottom of the oscillating spring
4) The applied force extension was found by measuring the length from the top of the oscillating spring to the bottom while a specific mass was attached.
5) To find the time for 10 cycles of our bob bouncing with the specified masses attached the stop watch was started when the bob dropped and it was stopped when the bob completed ten cycles.
6) The graphs of Extension vs. Applied force was plotted to find the spring constant by calculating the slope of the line...
