I chose this topic because I thought the Berlin Wall would be an interesting topic to research. It had an enormous impact on the rights of the German people, dividing them into two different groups, the Communist and the Democrats. West Germany was a Democracy and was very successful, while East Germany was Communist and was not freely supported by its citizens. In fact, force was needed to keep east from west. The Wall was an icon to all the Germans as anger and imprisonment; freedom was scarce in East Germany. The wall was built to stop West Germany from contacting East Germany. The Berlin Wall was a barrier of cement, steel, and barbed wire fences. There where guard towers everywhere with guns and other weapons. The wall was impossible to pass without the approval of the communist government.
