DWI has quickly become the most serious misdemeanor criminal charge that an individual can face in the state of New Mexico. An arrest for DWI triggers both a criminal case and a case with the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division. These cases can result in a lengthy revocation of your driver's license, mandatory jail time and steep mandatory fines. It is important that you know your rights if you have been arrested for DWI. For example, the failure to request an administrative hearing regarding the revocation of your driver's license within ten days of your arrest will result in the automatic revocation of your license.
Recent research examined psychosocial differences between drinking and non-drinking drivers seriously injured in a crash, and found that the drinking drivers had a higher level of alcohol-involvement in their lives. Comparisons of drinking drivers with and without a history of alcohol-related crashes are lacking in the literature. The current study examined differences in psychosocial characteristics between DWI offenders (persons convicted of any drinking and driving offense) who never had an alcohol-related crash and those who had multiple (two or more) alcohol-related crashes. The study focused on the difference between the groups with no crashes and multiple crashes to provide as strong a distinction as possible.
