Drugs: The Road to Happiness?
Most people don't dream of ending up in a mental institution or drug treatment center. Everyone in the world strives for happiness in their life. Every human has a dream, but they attempt to achieve it in different ways. Sometimes people let their greatest desire be their number one priority in life, but they lose sight of their goal and are misled. Throughout the film Requiem for a Dream each person has their own dream to achieve, but they all have obstacles in the way of this dream. Director Darren Aronofsky shows that in the pursuit of the American Dream people end up being engulfed by other superficial addictions, including drugs.
In Requiem for a Dream each character is running after components of the American Dream. These elements include things such as: beauty, love, wealth, independence, attention, and respect. Furthermore, all the characters have some sort of addiction, each character wanting sensation and escape from life...
