We need coal for many different reasons. Most of our electricity is produced by coal and many other products that are important to our everyday living are manufactured from coal also. Until we find better and other replacements, we will have to continue mining. There are many ways to mine coal but the mountaintop removal method is by far the most damaging to our environment and should be stopped.
The destruction of forests and wildlife is a huge problem with mountaintop mining. Mining companies must reclaim the land and restore it to its original appearance. This cannot be done. The companies cannot replace mountains, streams, or wildlife. The majority of reclaiming projects does not replace native plants. Many streams are polluted and are filled with waste and silt from mining sites, thus killing fish and other aquatic wildlife and the consumption of this water has proven to be fatal to other wildlife...
