Almost a year after the Oppenheimer's marriage, the Ella Oppenheimer gave birth to J. Robert Oppenheimer, on April 22, 1904. Robert Oppenheimer's mother was Ella Friedman Oppenheimer, and his father was Julius Oppenheimer. He was born at his parent's home, a house on West 94th Street in New York. His father originally called J. Robert Oppenheimer Robert Oppenheimer, but then his father added the J. to his name. Many people think the J. was for Julius, which was his father's name, but his father claimed it didn't stand for anything...
