Lab: Growth of Bacteria
Purpose:
To examine and describe the growth of bacteria
Materials:
Sterile Petri dish with nutrient agar
Q-tip
Incubator set at 37oC
Source of Bacteria (door knob of the upstairs girls' washroom)
Procedure:
1. A Q-tip was used to collect bacteria from a doorknob in the women's washroom.
2. The lid of the Petri-dish was lifted and held above the open agar surface.
3. The Q-tip was inoculated across the nutrient agar. The Petri dish was then quickly closed.
4. The sides of the Petri-dish were sealed with masking tape and labeled with our names and the source of the bacteria (the doorknob from the girls bathroom).
