More than five million Americans suffer from eating disorders. That is an overwhelming amount of people, and many of these disorders are results of media images. These eating disorders are extremely dangerous, and an estimated 1,000 women die each year of anorexia nervosa. Women want to look like the models they see in media images. Fifteen percent of young women have substantially disordered eating attitudes and behaviors because of this.
The most common eating disorders are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating. These disorders are psychiatric illnesses that affect over five million American women and men. ... Eating disorders are not just the extremes of anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder. ... I know that if done correctly, it can be a healthy way of eating and keep down the weight. ... A study showed that the building of the distorted body image that leads to eating disorders occurs in stages. ...
