Just as we are affected by our physical climate, we are also affected by our interpersonal climate. An interpersonal climate is the overall feeling or emotional mood between people1. This climate is the foundation of all personal relationships, especially those in a health care context. Maintaining healthy relationships are basic to our lives and a key in establishing confirming climates. We relate to others to fulfill human needs for safety, belonging, esteem, and survival1. Health care professionals must be aware of the features that create supportive relationships in order to ensure the comfort and wellbeing of their patients. These four features are: investment, commitment, trust, and comfort with relational dialects.
