Later this year, the people of the United States will look to the Supreme Court to make a decision regarding the rights of gay individuals to adopt children. This decision could create a precedent for future cases, placing the children pending adoption at serious risk.
A decision in favor of Lofton vs. Kearney would overturn the state of Florida's ban on gay adoption. Steven Lofton is suing Kathleen Kearney for enforcing the homosexual adoption provision after he attempted to adopt his foster children. Lofton and his partner Houghton will challenge the law on the basis it is in violation of their fundamental rights. This is their last chance to have the decision overturned.
If passed this case will place children pending adoption at risk. It may appear gay adoption would solve the state's shrinking pool of qualified adoptive parents, but the research is still to vague to risk placing children with gay adoptive parents. Adoption has also never been a fundamental right, it is a privilege the State reserves the right to deny or bestow...
