A common phrase used by people to compare food and personality is "we are what we eat." That is something that cannot be answered, because the choice of food is not usually influenced by our personalities, but by our taste buds. Companies in the food industry are always trying to draw customers to food courts and looking to see who goes where to eat so they can identify a target market. When trying to identify who eats where, the best and only thing you can identify about people is demographic characteristics. Such as age, race, size, and sex. I personally took two trips to the Westfield Shopping Mall in Chesterfield, Missouri to see why food courts are important, and if demographical characteristics of people had any relation to where they chose to eat.
Food, especially a variety of fast and sit-down venues, is another key component of today's entertainment mix. "Food has a much more direct correlation than movie theaters on retail traffic. And adding destination restaurants help make shopping centers places where people go for a variety of things" (Evans 127).
