In J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and Homer's The Odyssey, there are many comparisons to be made about the heroes in each. The hero of The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, and the hero of The Odyssey, Odysseus, are similar in many ways. In both stories the heroes are neither fools nor invincible, they have a guide, and their way is beset with dangers.
Both Bilbo and Odysseus are neither fools nor invincible. Bilbo was not invincible because he made mistakes and was nearly taken by death many times during the story, but he was not a fool in any way, which he proved many times throughout the story.
