A young man discovering his first love is a complicated issue. The feelings are new and the actions to be taken are unknown. In the story "Araby" a young boy discovers his first love. The woman who receives this adoration is unaware of his affection. The protagonist decides to go to the Araby and buy a gift for her to win her love. The authors use of language allow the reader to empathize with the young boys struggle. In "Araby" by James Joyce, the tone of empathy is displayed through the use of diction and similes.
The author uses similes throughout the story to help display the tone of empathy. "My body was like a harp and her words and gestures were like fingers running upon the wires (567)". The reader starts to understand how affected the young boy is by the sight of Mangan's sister...
