In time of war there is a distortion of reality, war is discussed or portrayed in what is called mythic reality. What is depicted of war is not what war is really about. Chris Hedges describes war as being fought for one purpose and that is the purpose of extermination. He reveals the "sexual attraction to war and the perversion of lust that had emerged during the time of war". Then he writes about how the "myth of war entice us with the allure of heroism" and leaves out the essential element which is fear. The idea of war is thought of to be exciting and the young men who engage in battle are lead to believe that war is what links them to manhood. War is how they will discover their value and worth in society and in their lifetime. It is very startling that war is viewed this way despite what war, in reality, is really about, death. However Chris Hedges believes that in order for us to survive as human beings we can only do that through love.
Although I myself have never engaged in war, I can't seem to have that image of how war is really like...
