On July 6 2000, South African Airways (SAA) took delivery of the first of its new Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Three GATX managed aircraft-owning partnerships will supply eight of these aircraft to SAA. Flightlease AG, a Swissair Group Company, will supply an additional eight sister aircraft to form the bulk of SAA's planned 737-800 fleet. The lease agreement with SAA was arranged and negotiated by GATX Flightlease Management GmbH a company owned equally by GATX and Flightlease AG. The eight GATX-supplied aircraft, with a manufacturer's list price of $450 million, will be drawn from aircraft already on order for three GATX-led aircraft-owning partnerships. GATX is the manager and a co-investor in each partnership. Bank of America, Halifax plc, Heller Financial, Kanematsu Corporation, Lombard North Central plc and The Royal Bank of Scotland plc are also investors in one or more of these partnerships.
