A misconception that I feel many people, living both in America and outside the country have about the United States is that everyone is wealthy here. They believe that everyone drives fast cars and lives in large homes, as often portrayed in the movies. What many people don't know however is that the poverty rate is very high in the United States, and it is likely to rise do to the rapidly growing population. Here are a few facts that I have found shocking and disturbing while doing my research. Dreadfully, 35.6 million Americans are considered poverty stricken, this includes 7.3 million families. Half of all hungry households have at least one adult employed full time. Manufacturing jobs have declined from 27.6% of all jobs in 1970 to 15...
