Dante's Inferno, one of parts of his epic The Divine Comedy, was written about his voyage through hell and all he sees while there. This article will first high light some of the more important back ground details of Dante himself. It will then summarize Inferno, taking you with Dante as he and Virgil make their way through hell. This will be followed by an attempt to make sense of Dante's journey through hell. Finally what Dante might have been intending for Inferno to mean, or its importance.
Dante Alighieri, one of the greatest poets of the Middle Ages, was born into an old Florentine family, in Florence, Italy, 1265. At an early age(Dante was famous by 1295) he began to write poetry and became fascinated with lyrics. During his adolescence, Dante fell in love with a beautiful girl named Beatrice Portinari. He saw her only twice however she provided much inspiration for his writings. Her death at a young age left him grief-stricken...
