I recently read Tom Brokaw's book, The Greatest Generation and I found it to be a provocative insight on the generation of people who fought in World War II and how they dealt with the hardships they encountered during and after the war. In this book Brokaw begins doing a special about the invasion of Normandy. There he met several veterans who were revisiting that historic beach. That is where he received his idea for the book.
In his book he interviews many extraordinary people with extraordinary stories. One person is Thomas Broderick. Tom broderick was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He was a premed student in Xavier College. Even though he was set to be sucessful in the promising field of medicine, he felt that it was his duty to join the military.
