Electronic Commerce better know as e-commerce or EC involves "the process of buying, selling or exchanging products, services, and information via computer networks including the Internet" (Turban, King, Lee, Warkentin and Chung, 2002, p5). While EC is seen to be narrow in its scope the term e-business has a broader definition. E-business is "not just the buying and selling of goods and services, but also servicing customers, collaborating with business partners, and conducting electronic transactions within an organization" (Turban, King, Lee, Warkentin and Chung, 2002, p6). E-business is a concept that has become extremely popular over the past several years. In particular, the retail industry has made a huge leap into the realm of e-business. In 2002, according to the Department of Commerce's Census Bureau, online retailing accounted for less than 2% of total U.S. retail sales. (Cardline, p1) However, in comparison to brick and mortar retailers the growth of online retailing is prevailing.
