I'm here to tell you about how the theatre works. You may not be aware of all the people behind the scenes who rarely get credited. Sure, their names are in the program, but most people are only interested in the actors. Yes, the actors are important, but without a crew they are just that, actors. In order to make a show come alive and run smoothly, there are a lot of people who put in incredible amounts of time making sure the show goes well.
First of all, you have the set builders. These people are an important part of the crew, though they don't actually help run the show. These people have to work with the designer and director in order to meet the needs of the show. The director tells the designer what he or she has in mind, and then it is their job to figure out how to make it work. Once the designer has come up with the final design, the builders go to work...
